SignalGrade for home services

When something breaks, they search on a phone. Be easy to read.

Plumbers, HVAC techs, roofers and cleaners hear from people in a hurry. SignalGrade checks whether your homepage says what you do and where, is set up for phones and isn’t hidden from search.

What matters most here

Four of the seven,
read for you.

Every business gets the same seven checks. This page explains four of them in terms of plumbing, hvac, roofing and cleaning. Structured data means business details written in code so software can read them.

  1. Set up for phonesThe call often starts from a search on a phone. The viewport setting is the first step to a page that fits the screen.
  2. Says who you areA title that names the trade and the area you serve, not the name of the website template.
  3. Business details software can readStructured data as a Plumber, HVACBusiness or RoofingContractor, with your phone and service area.
  4. Crawlers allowed inTemplates sometimes ship with a robots.txt that blocks the whole site. One line in that file can shut out every crawler.
What a finding looks like

An example,
in the report’s words.

This is the format and wording the check uses. It is an illustrative example, not a customer result.

Says who you are

Needs attention

Title: Home. Description: not found. The title is a placeholder (“Home”), so it does not name the business or its service.

What to do. Give the page a title that names the business and its main service, then add a one or two sentence description.

Illustrative example

Same engine.
Same limits.

This page changes the explanation, not the check. It doesn’t check your service-area listings, reviews, ads or call tracking. It doesn’t ask AI assistants about you or track rankings.

How SignalGrade compares

A few things
worth asking.

Does the check test how my site looks on a phone?

It confirms the viewport setting that lets a page fit a phone screen. It doesn’t judge the layout; test that on a real phone.

My site was built from a template. Does that matter?

Templates sometimes ship with a placeholder title or a robots.txt that blocks crawlers. Those are two of the seven checks.

Will fixing these bring more calls?

No one can promise that. The check shows whether the basics are readable; calls depend on much more than your homepage.
