Why your business does not show on Google Maps

Google says only verified Business Profiles can show their info on Maps and Search. Here is what to check, in order.

Gman Creations is a web and visibility studio in Miami. If your business does not show on Google Maps, start with your Google Business Profile. Google says only verified businesses can show their business info on Maps and Search. Keep that profile complete and accurate, and know that Google does not sell a better local ranking.

Is your Business Profile verified?

Verification tells Google you are allowed to represent the business. Google's find-your-business help page is plain: only verified businesses can show their info on Maps and Search. Open your profile and check that it says verified. Google's tips on local ranking also say a verified profile is more likely to show in search results.

Are your details complete and correct?

Google asks for your full address if customers can visit, your hours, your business category, and other details. Businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show in local results. If the info is wrong, Google says your profile might not show for relevant searches in your area.

How does Google decide who shows up?

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity. Under prominence, Google means how well known the business is. That includes links to your business and your reviews. More reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the person searching.

Why does someone across town see different results?

Distance is part of the ranking, so results change with where the person searching is. The same search words can return different businesses when the searcher is in a different place.

Can you pay Google to rank higher on Maps?

No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.

How long do changes take?

Google says rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear in search results. When you edit your info, changes can take up to 3 days to show. A suspended or disabled profile will not show until you fix the issue.
