Google Maps put reviews behind a login
Google Maps now requires sign-in to read full Business Profile reviews, sort them, or leave one. Check what strangers see signed out.
Google Maps now requires a Google account to read the full review set on a Business Profile. Sign-in is also required to sort reviews or leave one. Search Engine Roundtable documented the prompt on Sep 30, 2026. Open the listing signed out. Stars may stay visible. Review text can sit behind the login wall.
Maps put a wall in front of Business Profile reviews.
Barry Schwartz covered it on Search Engine Roundtable this morning. Google Maps shows a sign-in prompt. The prompt title is Sign-in to get the best of Google Maps. Under it: reviews and photos, saved places, and personalized travel. After that wall, you need a Google account to see all reviews on a listing, sort them, or leave one.
I treat the signed-out panel as the artifact. The manager screen is not what strangers hit. A signed-out visitor may still see the star score while the review text sits behind login. That is the view that matters when someone is deciding whether to call.
Most people don't have a workload problem. They have a systems problem. The systems problem here is watching the owner dashboard and never checking what a stranger sees without a Google account.
Schwartz guesses the change is aimed at bots, scrapers, AI platforms, and other third parties. That is his read, not a statement from Google.
Why the signed-out view belongs on the checklist
If review words vanish for people who never sign in, your public story shrinks. The manager screen can still look full. Get Seen at Gman Creations treats accurate Google details and a clear website link as part of the foundation. We do not promise rankings or AI placement. We agree a written scope and quote within 2 business days of a complete brief. The delivery package includes confirmed intake, a written visibility plan, presence copy, a distribution checklist, and a status log. Sending the brief is not a purchase.

If a stranger opens your listing with no Google account tonight, what review text do they still see?
FAQ
Does every visitor need to sign in to see star ratings?
Search Engine Roundtable covers reading the full review set, sorting reviews, and leaving a review. A signed-out stranger may still see stars while the review text sits behind login. Check your own listing signed out rather than guessing from the manager screen.
What does the Maps prompt say?
The in-product prompt title is Sign-in to get the best of Google Maps. It lists reviews and photos, saved places, and personalized travel.
Why did Google add the sign-in wall?
Barry Schwartz guesses it is aimed at bots, scrapers, AI platforms, and other third parties. Google has not published that motive in the Roundtable write-up. Treat the guess as his, and treat the signed-out panel as the check you can run today.
