Search Console performance data ran over 64 hours behind

Google Search Console's performance report ran more than 64 hours behind this weekend. A late chart is not a ranking drop, so wait before rewriting pages.

Google Search Console's performance report ran more than 64 hours behind this weekend. If your clicks chart looked stuck, that is probably why.

A late chart is not a ranking drop.

What lagged

Barry Schwartz flagged it on Search Engine Roundtable on Oct 11, 2026. His screenshot from about 7am ET Sunday showed "Last update: 64 hours ago" right under the date buttons. He said that is very unusual for the performance report, which normally updates within a few hours. Delays are more common in other parts of Search Console, like page indexing.

The lag came in the days right after the September 2026 spam update. By 11am ET Sunday it was down to 44 hours. Monday morning he said it seemed back to normal. Google had not posted a public note about this delay when the story ran. Barry said the last delay this long was in December 2025.

What Google's help page says

Google's help page for the performance report already warns that the newest numbers can move.

Preliminary data: The newest data can be preliminary, meaning it's still being collected and might change in the next few hours. Preliminary data is indicated by a dotted line on the graph.

The default view shows clicks and impressions for the past three months. The 24-hour view includes preliminary data. So the right edge of the line is the least settled part of the chart, even in a normal week.

How I read it

This weekend's lag was far longer than a few hours. It was a delay in the report. It says nothing about what Google did to anyone's site. The spam update ended around the same time, so the two are easy to mix up. A late report and a real drop both look like a line going flat at the end.

What I would do

Before I read the chart, I look at the Last update note under the date buttons. If it says days ago, the last days on the graph are not in yet. I would wait until it catches up, then compare a full week to the week before it. I would not rewrite a service page or cut a page off two flat days.

What to do next

A Search Console lag tells you nothing about your homepage. SignalGrade is the free check from Gman Creations for whether search engines and AI tools can read your homepage basics. It looks at seven basics, like the page title and whether the crawler rules file lets search engines in. Every finding shows its source. No account and no card. It does not track rankings or ask AI assistants about you, and there is no score out of 100. Anything it can't read is marked couldn't check. FAQ

Yes. Search Engine Roundtable reported it was more than 64 hours behind on Oct 11, 2026. It was down to 44 hours by late morning, and Barry Schwartz said Monday it looked back to normal.

Does a delayed report mean my rankings dropped?

No. A delay means the newest data is not in the report yet. On its own it tells you nothing about rankings.

What is preliminary data in Search Console?

Google says the newest data can be preliminary, still being collected, and might change in the next few hours. It shows as a dotted line on the graph.

How do I know if the report is behind?

Look at the Last update note under the date buttons in the performance report. Barry's screenshot Sunday morning read "Last update: 64 hours ago."
